Fall From Top Bunk Results in $5,500 Settlement for D.C. Jail Prisoner
Vernal Gabriel sued the District in 2004 after he fell while attempting to climb down from his top bunk. Gabriel had been assigned to a top bunk despite an ankle and leg problem that made it difficult to ascend and descend from the bunk.
Gabriel alleged that the District was negligent in assigning him a top bunk and for failing to adequately treat his injuries after he fell.
Gabriel was represented by Warren Gorman of Chevy Chase, Maryland. See Gabriel v. District of Columbia, No. 04-0007804 (D.C. Sup. Ct.).
